"Why are you carrying me over puddles? Just buy me wellies." Sirius shook his head in mock disapproval, tossing the ball that he had caught from one hand to the other. "I mean. Remus and I figured that you'd still be in love with Lily, so you weren't really an option. If it makes you feel better, we did agree that you'd have the biggest boobs if you were a girl."
So there, that should hopefully turn that frown upside down. He tossed the ball back at James. "It's just because we were talking about the winter ball and Remus said he's flying solo forever. Just, you know. Girls are sensible. I'd be into Remus."
"... I would have the biggest boobs. Wait, no, wouldn't Peter? I guess I'd have the sexiest boobs." He wasn't sure how to make it work but he was sure he would be the hot chick of the group. "You know, if Peter was a girl, he'd date me so..." Wait, that wasn't a brag. And he'd probably date him tomorrow if he was into that. So. He mostly just sat there, pulling a face of regret. "Never mind."
That was not a valid point to make. Catching the ball, James frowned at Sirius and tossed it back to him. "I dunno, girls can be wreckless, stupid and shallow too, you know? Why else would they date us?" He had to assume it was like 80% looks. "Would you really wanna date a bloke like Remus? His hair is a bit naff, ain't it?"
"Eh. I guess you and him are tied second place for hair." Sirius didn't even consider that he could be anywhere other than first place himself. His hair was his crowning glory, anyone could see that. He ran a hand through it now and almost missed the ball being thrown, but then caught it at the last moment, narrowly avoiding hitting himself in the face. "Remus has nice eyes. Like amber or something."
He wasn't so hungry, so it could be amber. "Besides, you just know he'd be devoted. With you, I'd be second place to Lily! Who wants that?"
"Really? They're just brown. They're nice and all but ... I dunno what amber looks like actually." He wasn't sure. He couldn't really look a bloke and think about his eyes. A girl, sure, but it was hard with men. Except Sirius. He could talk about how beautiful Sirius was all the live long day if he had to.
"Remus is a good lad, you're right. He'd be good dating material for girl-you. Might keep you all steady, like. You know? Grounded. He's a sensible boy." Way more sensible than them. Which was a low bar so it was hard to say if he was actually sensible in the grand scheme of things. "Some girl will snatch him up some day."
"Guess so." Sirius frowned, because he didn't like the thought. He tossed the ball in the air and caught it. He just didn't want some girl to hurt Remus. That was the issue here. Hopefully it wouldn't happen. Whatever.
With a shake of his head, he tossed the ball back to James. "Speaking of. You got a winter ball date yet? Backup, in case Lily doesn't give in?"
"Nah, I'm pinning it all on Lily. And if she doesn't say yes, I'm gonna be there for her anyway. I won't give in." He was going to stalk her all around the ball if he had to. He was determined, in love and had already got them matching necklaces... because it seemed great at the time and now it was dumb but whatever, he spent money, he was gonna own it.
"You? Got a hot date? Or are we all flying solo this dance?" They didn't often do that, usually he and Sirius had a date, Peter third wheeled and Remus sometimes didn't even turn up and sometimes forth wheeled. "Wonder if Moony will come this time."
"What if Lily has a date?" Sirius was just saying, it didn't seem that unlikely. "I'll be there for moral support." And to prank the date in question, should it become necessary. Not the first time. He knew what it meant to be friends with James. "Yeah, I'm solo. I got some offers."
But, eh. He tended to have more fun solo. "Maybe Wormtail has a date. Why wouldn't Moony come?"
"Then I'll get in the way." Cause he could not help himself. "She's just gotta accept that we're endgame." Flopping back, James sighed lamentingly and closed his eyes, wishing true love was an easier path to follow. What a battle it was. A harsh beast. "I dunno, it's close to moon time and sometimes he gets pissy around then. Might not fancy being social."
It was weird, Remus wasn't usually snappy or moody but boy could that moon mess with him. Even days before it properly kicked off, he got all weird with them. "Might be fine, I dunno. Just wondering." He yawned lazily. "I'll get Peter a date. I owe him, he's been a good one lately."
"You could date him. You are right, you know? If he was a girl, he'd have fantastic knockers." Which didn't really make dating actual Peter any more desirable, but hey. He was trying to talk him up here. "I could get Remus a date too, but he's better off without one. I'll keep him company while you are off annoying Lily."
Especially if it was close to a full moon, he could use some moral support through that. "When do you leave for holidays? I'm still not sure if I'll get a call home or be able to weasel myself out of that."
"Yeah but she'd be such a but-her-face and I don't really think I'd be into her. Too needy. I mean, Peter is hard enough as a friend. Imagine dating that. During school holidays, he writes every day. It's so boring." It was mostly just the weather, what his mom was up to and what new shoes he had. Very, very mundane. He could NOT date that.
"I dunno yet, my mom has her own schedule and she's said three different things. She's picking me up, I'm making my own way and the date changed twice." So he wasn't even sure when he was leaving anymore. "I assume the weekend after my last lesson. Lemme know if you can get out of going home, maybe we can meet up. I always miss you in the summer, Pads."
"I miss you in the summer too. If I can get out of going home, I'm staying here. With..." Sirius frowned. The flaw about staying was that everyone else left. Peter left, Remus left, James left. "I'll be pining for you." Obviously. Eh, he knew how to make his own fun. "Or I'll have to go home and then I'll be really, truly pining for you."
He sighed heavily at the thought. "It's no fair. You are pureblood too, why did you luck out?"
"I dunno, my parents are delightful, that's why everyone hates them. They always offer for you to come over. My mom got you presents." She always did. Unrelentingly. Bless her heart, she was a good woman. "If you stay here, tell me, then you could come and sleep over at mine!" The could make it work, they were good at stuff like that.
Or he'd just come and sleep here. Whatever way. "One day, sooner or later, we will spend Christmas together."
