He didn't even entirely care about his own grades, but he did like having goals, even if it was just acing a test, and a part of him enjoyed studying. And, yes, a part he would have liked to deny existed did know that his father bragged about his academic achievements and since his father was capable of speaking several languages, he wanted to do the same. Do better than him in every way, outgrow him entirely.

He pushed the thought aside and then looked at Gilderoy. Really looked at him. Then he snorted. "Fieldwork? All right, Newt Scamander." That was hilarious. He had seen Gilderoy in the field.
